If your process involves pumping abrasive slurries and your maintenance and production people are happy, there is a good chance that you are using a GIW slurry pump. You see, GIW has been in the business of pumping difficult slurries for over 100 years.

Long life and minimal wear makes the maintenance group happy and less down time makes production happy.  And as you know, there are plenty of things to keep these folks busy without worrying about pump problems.

Contact us to learn more about the superior GIW slurry pumps.  We can size the pump you need for your particular application and provide you with a system analysis and predicted wear rates on our selections.  We even have a unique performance guarantee that you need  to hear about.

    HEC NEWS FLOW

The new year is here and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers, manufacturing partners, employees, and friends for making 2007 a great year for Hunter Equipment Company.  It was our 13th year of operation and we were again blessed to have success, growth, and an even brighter outlook for the coming years.

New developments for the company include the addition of the Dominican Republic as a new territory for Tyco Valves and Controls and Derrick Corporation as a new product line for the LA, MS, and Jamaican aggregate market.  We are looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that will come with these new additions to HEC.

We are continuing to strive to get our customers to link HEC and slurry handling expertise.  HEC has the most complete line of slurry handling products and experience of any company in our trade areas.  The companies that we represent and distribute are the most technically superior group in this niche market.  Whether it is solids handling slurry pumps, severe duty isolation and control valves, expert mixing design, or separation technologies -HEC is on top of this segment of the equipment industry with the finest products, factory engineering support, and experience.

We are always looking for new people to join our team.  This is a priority for the company as we enter this new and exciting time in our history.  We look forward to continued growth in 2008 and as always thank God for the blessing that He has provided this company and the families that are part of HEC.

Thank you for the opportunity to continue to pursue my dreams.

David S. Pratt

Keystone F638 Valve
KEYSTONE BUTTERFLY VALVES

Keystone valves have long been a standard in slurry duty applications calling for butterfly valves.  Many of the valves in service today have been there for over 20 years.   When it comes time to replace your valves or put new ones in service, give us a call.  Some part numbers may change, but the valves for your particular service are still available.

If you are putting a new line in service, call and speak with one of our application specialist today.  We are here, ready to help size a Keystone valve for your next project.

Pump Cavitation -An Operator's View

Pump Cavitation is a condition that occurs in centrifugal pumps that can seriously affect pump performance and the life of expensive capital equipment.

What is it?  And how can you tell if this is occurring in your equipment?

Cavitation is the formation of air bubbles in the liquid being pumped.  It is caused by one or more of the following conditions:

1.Suction pressure to the pump is too low-this can be alleviated by raising the level in the feed tank or insuring that the suction piping is not restricted by a valve or obstruction.

2. The pump is being operated at a duty point lower than it is designed and is nearing it's "shutoff head" at which point the pump will lose prime and stop pumping.

3. Suction piping is not effectively feeding sufficient fluid to the pump.  The pump is effectively being starved and the result is the formation of air pockets in the suction area.  This could be caused by bad suction piping design which can cause insufficient flow to the impeller.

The effects of pump cavitation can be one or more of the following:

1. Loss in pump output or flow.

2. The pump can no longer build the same head

     (discharge pressure).

3. The pump's efficiency drops.

4. Excessive pump noise ( sounds like pumping

rocks ), vibration, and pump damage.

How to determine if your pump is cavitating and what to do about it?

If you suddenly notice a change in the performance of your pump, whether it is a decrease in flow or pressure or an increase in pump noise and / or vibration, it is possible that cavitation could be the cause.

GIW's world renowned hydraulic lab created this video to help operators learn to identify a cavitating pump.

If you are having problems with pump performance, this is just one example of HEC's ability to assist you in solving your slurry handling equipment issues.

Give us a call today and we will be happy to work with you.
